Alcobaça

Is located in the heart of central Portugal with the famous Santa Maria de Vitória Monastery in the center. The monastery is a masterpiece of Portuguese late Gothic architecture and Manuelino ornamentation. Due to the presence of the abbeys, Batalha, together with the towns of Alcobaça and Tomar, forms the Golden Triangle of the Costa de Prata. These three buildings are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Municipal Museum of Batalha opened in 2011. The museum has interactive parts and takes you on a journey through the past to the present. In the historical archive you will also find the excavations of the Roman city of Collipo, once built in Batalha.

Located a bit more inland at about 1 hour and 20 minutes drive, but definitely worth a visit! Coimbra also has a rich history. In the Middle Ages, Coimbra was even the capital of Portugal for a while. Coimbra owes much of its fame to the University of this city. But Coimbra also has beautiful parks such as the Penedo da Saudade, the Santa Cruz Park, the Mata Nacional do Choupal and the botanical gardens of the university.

Places of interest include: the University of Coimbra (World Heritage) with its beautiful buildings, theatre, botanical gardens, library and museums. The Machado de Castro Museum (National Museum), located in an old palace, culminating in the Cryptoporticus, a covered gallery. .Portugal dos Pequenitos Park, literally “Portugal for the little ones”. Not a big 'spectacle' amusement park, but a nice break for the children to run and play. You will find a large number of traditional Portuguese buildings, houses and shops and a theme park that they can discover for themselves. Cathedral Se Nova, the "new cathedral", today residence of the Bishop of Coimbra. Cathedral Se Velha, a beautiful cathedral from the Romanesque period, very well preserved both inside and out. In addition, there are ample opportunities for shopping in the 'Centro Comercial Dolce Vita' located in the old center and in the Forum Coimbra located on the bank of the river Mondego.

Lterally and figuratively a metropolis! With 2.9 million inhabitants, Lisbon is the largest city in Portugal. Lisbon is located above the northern banks of the Tagus River and is built on 7 hills. You will find picturesque narrow streets, but also wide shopping promenades, squares and fountains.
